I am an avid Evernote user and I have started making a pre-emptive Evernote list of the tags or folders or albums I want. And I'll keep tracking how long the whole process takes, step by step. I will be taking screenshots of the Lightroom process just in case it's of any interest. I started at 8:00 AM and it is now 09:52 and we are still only at 62,358. *** EDIT 1 POST READING ALL YOUR AMAZING 303 COMMENTS TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 4, 2018: Lightroom is now downloaded and it has taken HOURS for it to start adding up the 83,000 photos. I wasn't in a good, organised place in my mind then and I am now and I'm floored by how messy my brain was. Is there a program or should an algorithm be written by my programmer friend? I would certainly miss dupes and delete photos and get confused. Simply can't compute doing this manually. I am emerging from a decade of traveling and finally settled down and opened the hard drive in utter horror.

When everything is said and done I will post all of the suggestions for workflow and for software that were given in the comments but there are 300+ comments so it will take a while. I’m reading through all the comments and collating all of the software suggestions.
This is going to take a few days so I probably won’t post again until this weekend. I got some good advice about re-organizing original folder structure before trying to do a light room import. I canceled it and when back to the comments. I'm in Congo and I never could have imagined I would get the worldwide technical support you guys gave me. I'm adding this edit because a number of people asked in the comments and PM'd me to keep them updated as they were in a similar situation. Once I'm totally done with my photos, I will come back and organize all the different software suggestions you gave, but for the time being, I feel a bit burned out. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank EVERYONE ON THIS SUBREDDIT AND ON THIS POST for all the immensely helpful advice you have given me. Now, I'm going to import everything into LightRoom. Then, manually I created folder structures (I've completely edited the original folder structure I had thought I would use below) and I included the screenshots. I took a bit of time to spot-check his work and then deleted the 38,000 files. My mom even came into my office and closed my laptop.because it was open?!? and Duplicate Detective wasn't reset. There were 122,000 + photos with about 38,000 duplicates, which I only found out after I purchased Duplicate Detective for $4,99 on the App Store, because I'm on a Mac.ĭuplicate Detective worked for HOURS. I basically spent 2000-2006 traveling and 2 computers died, 3 hard drives crapped out, I kept backing stuff up, I got a desktop and downloaded everything, then saved it all on the same drive, exported my iPhoto library on two drives then combined the two drives.
